The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy authorized, through Resolution No. 200/2026, the marketing for all uses of genetically modified soybeans that incorporate tolerance to herbicides based on glyphosate, ammonium glufosinate, and 2,4-D, as well as to herbicides that inhibit the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), which allow for weed control without harming the crop.
This soybean was developed through conventional crossbreeding of two genetically modified events that have already been approved for commercial use in Argentina.
The authorization was granted following the successful completion of the relevant regulatory evaluations. With regard to agricultural biosecurity, the National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology (CONABIA) analyzed the characteristics of the individual events and the potential interaction between the proteins expressed in the accumulation.
As a result of the evaluation, CONABIA concluded that the new soybean does not pose any new or increased risks compared to other soybeans and that its release into the agroecosystem is as safe as that of any commercial soybean.
In addition, the Market Policy Directorate analyzed the potential impact of its commercialization and determined that no risks to Argentine exports of soybeans and soybean products were identified.
