Panama's Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) was an honorary witness to the signing of the Country Programme Framework (CPF) 2026-2030 between Panama and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held on August 31, 2026. The agreement was signed by Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez Acha and René Orellana Halkyer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Framework establishes the roadmap for technical cooperation to strengthen family farming and rural development in the country over the next five years, focusing on productivity, innovation, adaptation of the agricultural sector, and environmental sustainability.

During the event, Orellana Halkyer highlighted MIDA's work with producers and rural communities, as well as the role of MiAmbiente in protecting water, soil, biodiversity, and forests in the face of climate change. For his part, Martínez Acha noted that the Framework represents the renewal of a historic relationship with the FAO, aimed at accelerating the transformation of the country's agri-food systems.

The priorities defined in the agreement aim to create opportunities for producers, fishers, rural communities, women, youth, and indigenous peoples. Minister María Silvera, from the Ministry of Environment, also participated as an honorary witness.
