Costa Rica: Slaughter grows steadily in first half of 2026

• Hog slaughter in Costa Rica totaled 445,436 head in the first half of 2026, representing an 8.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
• Specifically for June, 75,697 head were slaughtered, up 6.7% from the same month last year and down 2.4% from May.

Imports

• Pork imports during the January-May 2026 period totaled 15,736 metric tons, representing a 3.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
• In May, imports totaled 3,687 metric tons, 30.0% higher than the same month last year and 21.8% higher than April.
