The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation authorized, through Resolution 80/2026, the commercialization of a new transgenic corn product with protection against certain lepidopteran insect pests.
The objective of this approval is to offer Argentine agricultural producers alternatives to maintain effectiveness in controlling certain pests that limit corn production and thus maintain the productivity of this crop in Argentina.
The approval was granted after successfully completing the evaluations carried out by the National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology (CONABIA), responsible for the analysis of agro-environmental biosecurity; the National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA), in charge of evaluating the safety for human and animal consumption; and the Undersecretariat of Agrifood Markets and International Insertion, which analyzed the potential impact of the adoption of this technology on Argentine exports.
The regulatory approval process began less than six months ago, a strong indication that the adoption of this type of technology in agriculture is a priority for Argentina, continuing more than 30 years of globally relevant assessments.
