South Korea - Foot and Mouth disease in cattle

07-Jan-2010 (16 years 5 months ago)The veterinary authorities have sent a report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD).
The affected farm is located in Changsu-myeon, Pocheon city, Kyonggi-Do.
A private veterinarian first found suspicious cases in the affected farm, in and reported them to the local government and to the Kyonggi-do Veterinary Services on 2 January 2010. It was negative by penside test kit on 3 January 2010. On 6 January, the local government veterinarian visited the farm again and tested the cattle which showed suspicious clinical signs and found some positive results. The National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS) finally confirmed positive on 7 January. Various animal health measures have been implemented on that farm including movement restriction, disinfection and stamping-out and an epidemiological investigation was started.
