USA shows slight rebound in swine inventory in June 2025

09-Jul-2025 (10 months 29 days ago)We present the highlights of the latest U.S. swine inventory report, published by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on June 26:
- As of June 1, 2025, a total of 75.1 million head (Mh) of swine were recorded on U.S. farms, representing a slight increase of 0.3% compared to June of the previous year and a 1% increase compared to the total reported on March 1, 2025 (74.7 Mh).
- Of the total (75.1 Mh), 69.2 million were market hogs, while the remaining 5.98 million were breeding sows.
- Between March and May 2025, 34.2 Mh were weaned on U.S. farms, reflecting a slight increase of 1.3% compared to the same period last year.
- An average of 11.75 pigs were weaned per litter during the March–May 2025 period, 1.6% more than in the same period the previous year (11.56).
- U.S. pig producers intend to farrow 2.97 million breeding sows between June and August 2025, and 2.95 million between September and November 2025.
- Pig producers in Iowa reported the largest inventory among states with 24.7 Mh, followed by Minnesota with 9.3 Mh and North Carolina with 7.8 Mh.
