Pig slaughter reached 5,775,811 head, a 4.3% growth compared to 2022 (5,536,331 head).
Pork production in 2023 reached 564,778 tons (t), representing a 7.3% increase over 2022.
At the departmental level, around 75% of national production was concentrated in Antioquia (43.3%), Valle del Cauca (15.6%), and Bogotá (15.8%), while Atlántico and Risaralda recorded the highest annual increases with 27.7% and 12.6%, respectively.
The departments that saw decreases in production levels were Quindío (-6.9%) and Huila (-0.8%).
The preliminary pork import volume stood at 138,229 t, down 2.1% compared to 2022 (141,264 t).
Apparent pork consumption reached 703,007 t, representing an increase of 5.3% over 2022 (667,694 t).
Apparent consumption is estimated to be 80% domestic product with the remaining 20% corresponding to imports.
Per capita consumption was estimated at 13.5 kg/inhabitant for 2023, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.
