France - AFSSA provides expert advice on A/H1N1 Influenza in animals

06-Nov-2009 (16 years 7 months 1 days ago)AFSSA scientists have developed a technique for identifying the new human 2009 A/H1N1 influenza virus and distinguishing it from the influenza viruses which are normally found in pigs and poultry.
The Institut Pasteur has contributed to the project by supplying viruses isolated in humans. The Directorate General for Food (DGAL) has designated AFSSA's Ploufragan laboratory as a National Reference Laboratory for implementing this diagnostic test. The tool will be made available to State-certified veterinary diagnostic laboratories.
