The Norwegian veterinary authorities have informed the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of virus A/H1N1 in pigs.

The pig herd, in the Norwegian county of Nord-Troendelag, has been quarantined.

The farmer of the herd had been sick with flu-like symptoms for some time and on Thursday 7 October the diagnosis of pandemic flu (influenza A/H1N1/2009) was verified. The infection seems to have been introduced in the herd from humans to the pigs in the farrowing unit.
