Poland's pig inventory down again this year

The breeding sow herd decreased by 59.6 thousand head (-7.5%) to 735.2 thousand head compared to June 2020, and the herd of pregnant sows was down 43.3 thousand head (-7.9%) to 506.9 thousand head.

In the total structure of the swine herd, the share of individual production and utilization in June 2021 was:

The largest shares in the domestic swine inventory were held by the following provinces: Greater Poland (38.2%), Masovian (11.5%), Kuyavian-Pomeranian (9.4%) and Łódź (9.2%). The following provinces had the smallest shares: Lubuskie (0.7%), Podkarpackie (1%), Małopolskie (1.1%) and Dolnośląskie (1.5%).

From January-June 2021 (according to preliminary data) imports of live pigs totaled 3.38 million head and were 5.3% lower than in the same period last year, of which imports of piglets decreased by 7.4%, and pure-bred breeding pigs and sows decreased by 11.6%. The average weight per imported head during the period was 32.7 kg compared to 30.4 kg in 2020.
