In accordance with the commitments made at the pig industry meeting on October 19 in the presence of the French Minister of Agriculture Julien Denormandie, Culture Viande (the Union of French slaughter and cutting companies) proposes that slaughterhouses pay farmers a surcharge of 2 € cents/kg to cover the cost of castration of piglets under anesthesia. This amount is higher than the cost assessment carried out by the IFIP (Institut du porc) for this operation. This amounts to a total of more than 15 million euros that slaughterhouses will pay annually to farmers.
