The green light has been given to the decree requiring the origin of pork to be labelled on processed products such as hams and cold cuts. Now, it awaits authorization from the EU.
The Farm to Fork strategy should also be implemented for mandatory labeling at EU level. Labeling the origin provides greater transparency.
The text requires producers to clearly indicate the following information on labels:
When the meat comes from pigs born, raised, and slaughtered all in the same country, the origin may be indicated as: "Origin: (name of the country)". The words "100% Italian" can be used only when the meat comes from pigs born, raised, slaughtered, and processed in Italy.
