Record-breaking Brazilian pork exports

Last year, Brazil exported a total of 750,300 tons of pork, 16.2% more than in 2018, with 646,000 tons.

In December alone, 76,000 tons were exported, 35.1% more than for the same period in 2018 (56,200 tons), making it the largest monthly shipment ever recorded in the history of the sector.

In value, sales reached US$ 1.597 billion, an increase of 31.9% over 2018, with sales of US$ 1.2 billion.

Sales to Asia, a region severely affected by outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF), provided a major boost to exports in 2019. China, the top importer in the first month of last year, imported 248,800 tons, a 61% increase over 2018. Vietnam, also affected by ASF, increased its imports by 82.6%, totaling 13,540 tons in 2019.

In South America, Uruguay was the main recipient, with 40,480 tons, up 12.8% compared to 2018. Chile also stood out, importing 44,540 tons (+28.9%).
