FAO develops African Swine fever leaflets

In an effort to improve the capacity of countries to promptly react to fast-moving transboundary animal diseases, the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has developed a series of leaflets on priority diseases of the region.

The leaflets are now available in English, plus some other languages online. Additional languages will be uploaded in this website as they become available. For the moment, tryptics have been developed for:

• Lumpy skin disease (LSD), a vector-borne cattle disease that has been spreading throughout the Balkans, Turkey and the Russian Federation, as well as in endemic Africa. The leaflet is available in two versions: one address field veterinarians, and another one, less technical, for farmers.
• African swine fever (ASF), possibly the most important swine disease these days, which is spreading rapidly all over Europe and China, as well as in endemic Africa. The leaflet comes in two versions, one Balkans-focused and the other Asia-focused. Within the same leaflet there is one section specific for people raising pigs, and another one for hunters who may encounter sick or dead wild boar.
