Within the framework of the General Assembly of the OIE in Paris, Colombia has been declared to be a country that is completely free of this disease with vaccination, and so Colombia will have the chance to extend exports to other commercial fields.

The Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Andrés Fernández Acosta, declared that this certification is a reward for the great effort made by the government for more than 59 years. Foot and mouth disease first appeared in Colombia in 1950, proceeding from Venezuela.
