Namibia - Feed costs hamper pork industry's growth

27-May-2009 (17 years 17 days ago)The newly elected committee of the Pig Producers Association, headed by Flip de Villiers, will work towarads expanding pig farming in Namibia to meet the current demand.
Namibia has 130 small and three big pig producers all over the country who produce 22 percent of the country's pork needs. The rest comes from South Africa. The bigger producers are located in Mariental, Swakopmund and Oshakati.
From January 2008 to January this year, pig farmers produced 33 642 pigs, which translates into 774 220 kg, all produced for the local market. This year alone from February to March 3 858 pigs were produced.
