29-Apr-2009 (17 years 1 months 15 days ago)The livestock, poultry and gamefowl industries of Negros Occidental are facing a collapse with the provincial ban on genetically modified products, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena warned yesterday.
Almost 90 percent of the ingredients for poultry and livestock feeds needed in Negros Occidental are imported, with the majority having been genetically modified, he said.
The 91.5 metric tons of corn is needed for an estimated 1 million broilers, 4 million gamefowls, .5 million layers, .8 million ducks and geese and .4 million pigs, Decena said.
