Significant increase in ASF outbreaks in the EU, Ukraine and Russia in 2015

2015 ends with a significant increase in cases of African swine fever (ASF) in the European Union. While a total of 254 outbreaks —214 in wild boars and 40 in domestic pigs— were confirmed during 2014 in the EU, 2015 ended with a total of 1,589 outbreaks (1,547 in wild boars and 42 in pigs). If we add the cases in Ukraine and Russia, the total number of confirmed outbreaks goes up to 1,719, 93 of them in domestic pigs.
