The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) recognized Mexico as a country free of Classical Swine Fever (CSF), according to the Chief Director of the National Service for Agroalimentary Public Health, Safety and Quality of Mexico (SENASICA), Enrique Sánchez Cruz.

MAFF had previously recognized the States of Sonora, Jalisco and Yucatan, among others, as disease-free.

During 2014, 73,554 tons of pork, worth 359 million dollars, were exported to Japan. With the new recognition, exports may be substantially increased, since the opportunity is opened for Federal Inspection Type (TIF) establishments nationwide to market products and pork products.
